Who is the licence intended for?

The licence is intended for any event organiser who organises annually at least ten events where background music is used.

What does the licence cover?

How is the price of the licence calculated and what does it cost?

The number of events is reported at the time of licence purchase. The minimum invoicing of the licence is ten events.

How and when to pay the licence?

The price based on the number of events is invoiced at the time of purchase and after at the beginning of the year for the whole year. Any changes to the annual number of events are to be reported once at the beginning of the year. No invoice refund is given even if the licence is not used in its entirety.

Licence for Background Music at an Event – terms specific to the method of use

The licence covers the public performance of music as mechanically reproduced background music at an event organised by the customer (such as an exhibition, a fair, a market, a sports or exercise event, a customer or personnel event, a training or coaching event). The licence is specific to the context of the use. The number of events covered by the licence and their number of attendees are reported and priced separately.

The licence also covers the occasional public performance of background music as a small-scale live performance (e.g. piano bar or background music in connection with the serving of meals), provided that the performance of live music has a secondary and minor significance in the performance situation and the customer’s activities. The licence also covers the transmission to the audience of mechanically reproduced music prior to performance situations in connection with the above-mentioned activities (e.g. on the intranet) if the transmission is carried out by the customer.

The licence does not cover other background music in customer premises, background music in restaurants, cafes or other similar activities or in other contexts or premises. The licence also does not cover concerts, live music, mechanically reproduced dance music or karaoke events, music on a show or in film or stage performances, the recording of music, the transmission of music to the audience prior to performance situations (without Teosto’s separate consent) nor the playing of mechanically reproduced music from a jukebox when the audience at the place where the jukebox is located pays a fee to get to hear music of their choice from the jukebox.

If the event is organised by a third party at the above-mentioned permanent venue, the third party, in addition to the customer, is responsible for the fee to paid for the event. The fee payable for the licence is specified according to the price list for background music in events according to the number of event attendees reported by the customer, the number of events or any other royalty basis indicated by Teosto to the customer. The customer must inform Teosto in advance of any changes to the above-mentioned royalty bases.
