Member Agreement has been amended

31.05.2017

At the beginning of 2017, new legislation on collective management of copyright entered into force in Finland. The new law required the amendment of Teosto’s copyright owner’s member agreement. The amended Client Agreement will come into force automatically on 1 June 2017. No actions are required from your part.

Dividing the copyrights conveyed to be administered by Teosto into more detailed categories is the most notable change to the member agreement. However, the extent of the copyrights included in Teosto’s member agreement did not change as the copyrights were only re-categorised. Parts of the agreement have been amended to suit the new law and some technical revisions have also been made. Teosto’s Board of Directors approved the amended client agreement on 17 May 2017.

Categories of rights according to the Member Agreement

This categorisation was approved in Teosto’s General Meeting held on 26 April 2017.

Withdrawing rights or geographical areas from Teosto’s administration

The amended member agreement enables members, who have conveyed copyrights to Teosto’s administration, to withdraw categories of rights from Teosto administration and limit the authorisation they have provided to Teosto to only cover certain geographical areas. Members should note that withdrawing categories or geographical areas from Teosto’s administration might require permission from other entities that own copyrights in their work, such as authors of a joint work or publishers.

If you withdraw categories of rights or geographical areas from Teosto’s administration, Teosto will no longer grant licences of use for your works or collect royalties for the withdrawn categories or geographical areas. Read more about withdrawing rights from Teosto’s administration here.

Granting licences for non-commercial use

The law on collective management enables you to grant licences for non-commercial use of your work. Granting a licence for non-commercial use requires that you have made sure that all possible third parties who own copyrights in your work, such as authors of a joint work or publishers, are also willing to grant the licence.

If you wish to grant a licence for non-commercial use of your work, please always notify Teosto as well, so we are able take into account the licences you have granted in our own licencing of your work and distribution of royalties.

Please contact our customer service for more information on granting licences for non-commercial use.

Current self-administration areas and self-administration notifications

The amendments made to the member agreement do not affect the current self-administration practices or any possible self-administration notifications you have made concerning them.

The amended agreement will automatically come into force on 1 June 2017

The amended member agreement will come into force automatically on 1 June 2017. No actions are required from your part. Should you find the amendments to the member agreement unacceptable, you can terminate the agreement immediately by notifying Teosto by 30 June 2017. In all other cases, the administration of your rights will continue in accordance with the amended member agreement.
