Ten Licence
Purpose of the licence
- The Ten Licence is suitable for companies, corporations, societies or private individuals who organise small events such as those described below.
- With the licence, you can organise a total of ten events during a calendar year, with a maximum potential audience of 200 attendees per event.
- The licence is not bound to a specific venue but it is customer-specific.
- The licence only covers gigs and events, not concerts or festivals.
Large or small licence?
- There are two licence scopes: Ten Licence Large and Ten Licence Small.
- The Large licence gives you the right to live music (artist, band, orchestra), recorded music (such as CDs and digital recordings) and background music.
- The Small licence gives you the right to recorded music (such as karaoke, DJ performances, CDs, digital recordings) and background music.
Licence application, pricing and reporting
- The licence applicant does not need to separately report the event information (date, number of attendees, proceeds from ticket sales) or submit performance notifications (set lists) to Teosto.
- Performers submit performance notifications as usual via Teosto’s web service for performers.
- An operator may obtain only one Ten Licence during one calendar year.
- The licence is valid until further notice and is be invoiced one calendar year at a time.
- Operators who already have a valid licence for live or recorded music for a restaurant cannot obtain a Ten Licence for the same venue in addition to the restaurant licence.
- The licence is paid for with a single invoice. No payment refund is given even if the number of events organised is less than ten.
Other things to consider
- If the music at the events also includes recorded music, i.e. one or more events have DJs or background music, a Gramex Event Licence is required in addition to the Ten Licence. You can purchase it together with the Ten Licence.
- The Ten Licence also does not cover stage performances. For these, you need a separate Music in Stage Performances licence.
- Background music can be played at the venue before the start of the actual event and during intermissions. Playing background music at other times or in other premises requires a separate music licence, which is sold by Musiikkiluvat.fi
- If necessary, a licence for copying music to be used at an event and using recordings intended for private use at a public event can be purchased as a separate licence from Musiikkiluvat.fi.
Who is the licence intended for?
The licence is intended for any event organiser (company, association or private individual) who organises 1–10 events during a calendar year where music is played and the maximum potential audience is 200 attendees per event.
The obtainer of the licence can only have one valid Ten Licence at a time. Restaurants and dance venues that have a valid licence for live or recorded music for a restaurant cannot obtain a Ten Licence for the same venue in addition to the restaurant licence.
What does the licence cover?
The licence covers the public performance of music at events such as gigs, singing and playing events, karaoke, disco and DJ concerts.
The event may be intended for the audience and/or the event organiser’s own personnel and may be subject to admission fees or free of charge. The licence does not cover concerts.
There are two licence scopes: Large and Small. The Large licence covers the use of live music, karaoke recorded dance music and recorded background music.
The Small licence covers the use of karaoke, recorded dance music and recorded background music.
Background music can be played at the venue before the start of the actual event and during intermissions. Playing background music at other times or in other premises requires a separate music licence.
If the music at the event also includes recorded music (for example from a CD or a digital file), you also need a Gramex Event Licence, which is sold together with the Ten Licence.
How is the price of the licence formed and when is it paid for?
The licence has a so-called lump-sum price in accordance with the price list valid at that moment. The licence for each calendar year is invoiced automatically in February, unless you have terminated the licence. Events that have already been organised before the licence is obtained cannot be included in the licence retrospectively.
No licence fee refund is given even if the number of events organised is less than ten.
How long is the licence valid for?
Once you have signed the agreement with Teosto, the licence is automatically valid until further notice, one calendar year at a time, until you terminate it. The notice period of the licence is one month.
