Teosto and the Finnish broadcaster MTV reach an agreement on music copyright royalties

MTV and Teosto have over the past several years had disagreements regarding copyright royalties for music content in MTV’s audiovisual services. As a result, Teosto’s pricing principles have been addressed in several court cases.

Following the latest court decision in the spring of 2024, MTV and Teosto have negotiated a licensing agreement for the use of music. The parties have now reached a mutual understanding on the principles of application of Teosto’s AV price list in MTV’s services.

“It is essential in Teosto’s operations to apply uniform pricing principles to all customers that use music in an equivalent position. As a result of the agreement concluded with MTV, the situation is now clearer, and we have been able to resolve the previous disagreements,” says Teosto’s CEO Risto Salminen.

Teosto distributes the royalties paid by MTV and other audiovisual service providers for the use of music to composers, lyricists, arrangers, and publishers four times a year.
